MEG
Essential raw material for antifreeze formulations and industrial applications
Product Overview
Monoethylene Glycol (MEG, CAS 107-21-1) is an essential industrial chemical with ultra-high purity of ≥99.5%. Its excellent heat transfer properties and low freezing point make it indispensable for antifreeze and coolant formulations in automotive and industrial cooling systems. With initial boiling point ≥185°C and moisture content ≤1.0%, our MEG meets the stringent quality requirements of major manufacturers worldwide. The compound also serves in hydraulic fluid formulations and as a chemical intermediate for various synthetic processes.
Application Details
Antifreeze formulations leverage MEG's low freezing point (-12.9°C for pure MEG, lower in aqueous solutions) and high boiling point (197°C) for year-round engine protection. Industrial coolant systems use MEG-based formulations for efficient heat transfer in HVAC, chemical processing, and data center cooling applications. MEG is also widely used in hydraulic fluid formulations and as a chemical intermediate for various synthetic processes.
Product Comparison
MEG vs DEG vs TEG: Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) is the most widely used glycol, primarily for polyester production and antifreeze. Diethylene Glycol (DEG) offers higher boiling point and lower volatility, preferred for gas dehydration and certain resin applications. Triethylene Glycol (TEG) provides even higher boiling point and is used for natural gas dehydration and air sterilization. For polyester and antifreeze applications, MEG is the standard choice; for gas processing and specialty solvents, DEG or TEG may be more appropriate.
