Moving past the raw-material yard, the tour enters the heart of the Wansheng plasticizer factory: the reaction and purification workshop. This is where the recycled PET melt reacts with iso-octanol through catalytic esterification and transesterification, producing crude DOTP that must then be purified to premium-grade specification.

According to Wang Qingkang, Chairman and General Manager of Jining Wansheng Environmental Protection Materials Co., Ltd., the upgraded equipment removes impurities from the recycled-PET feedstock effectively enough to achieve a color number below 100 — the threshold for premium-grade DOTP used in wire and cable, automotive interior, food-contact film and toy applications.

The Biomass Gasifier: A Green-Energy Highlight

One of the most distinctive features visible in this plasticizer factory tour is the biomass gasifier — the small tower structure located between the finished-product tanks and the laboratory. This unit uses recycled grain-straw pellets, which are gasified to produce biomass gas that heats the thermal oil circulating through the production process. By turning agricultural residue into clean process energy, Wansheng reduces its reliance on fossil fuels and creates a genuine circular-economy link between local farming and chemical manufacturing.

This is not a token sustainability gesture. Thermal-oil heating is one of the most energy-intensive steps in DOTP production, and displacing fossil fuel with biomass gas here delivers a measurable reduction in the carbon intensity of every ton of DOTP leaving the plant.
